A History of Indoor Skateboarding in NYC

Red Bull have produced a mini-documentary charting the rise of indoor skateparks, especially DIY ones, in New York City. Due to the long and bitterly cold winters, plus the snow and subsequent “ice melt” chemicals that cause the cracked and rough ground in the Big Apple, many of the city’s skateboarders had no choice but to build their own indoor spots. As pro Zared Bassett says in the video, if you want to have a chance of being able to compete with the Californian skateboarders at competitions, you really need to be practicing all year round.
